Till 50 years ago it was still normal and natural to be slim and healthy . We lived the dream of never having to diet and instinctively knowing the right foods to eat to stay slim and healthy. Our lives did not depend on constant, available foods. We simply ate 3 times a day, we enjoyed afternoon interludes, but we were never driven by the need for snacks and sodas and never thought of food till we needed it.

As one of nature’s creatures, we are not born to be fat, or to diet. Till forty years ago, it was normal to be slim and healthy and dieting was unknown. We had a connection to our body and let it manage and control our diet. There was no reason to worry about our weight.

Self- proclaimed Diet Experts had created a diet, the first ever, and they called it ‘The Food Pyramid’. It did not catch on at first, mainly because the diet was using our natural foods, the same foods we already ate, intuitively. The diet demanded rules and categorised and specified which foods to eat. Not an exciting prospect for most people who were already slim and healthy.

The Industry quickly proclaimed that processed foods were the only thing that could lower cholesterol. The diet was launched with a massive advertising campaign about cholesterol. Many called it a scare campaign. The prime promotions depicted a large Poster that portrayed a pyramid with layers of food categories. The biggest category, was processed foods, the base of the Pyramid.

We learnt that The Food Pyramid was the only thing that can lower cholesterol and this same group of Diet Experts, who were now self-qualified, strongly agreed. The only really big problem about all this, was that our Digestive system is designed exclusively to process only nature’s natural foods. Soon, millions of people were forced to abandon their natural diet for the Food Pyramid. That’s when Obesity began and when we first heard about Diabetes Type 2, soon we learned of another horrible disease called Morbid Obesity.

Diets and misinformation seems to go hand in hand. So here’s a summary of what actually happened: Around 50 years ago, a medium size company, and a small group of self-nominated diet-experts joined forces to break into and overtake our natural, every day intuitive diet. The attack was necessary because our basic instinct, Intuitive Eating, was the only thing that stood in their way. They didn’t seem to know or care that our Digestive System was designed exclusively for Natural foods. All alien foods are automatically rejected by our Digestive system. This means, massive amounts of unnatural processed foods are getting into our body, where they have nowhere to go.

But Nature doesn’t make mistakes. It anticipated that human beings might from time to time eat substances not suitable to our Digestive System. That’s why we have a small back up system that processes such alien foods and turns them into body fat. Body fat can only be made by our own body. It can’t be eliminated. Your body will move it to areas where it can be stored. Body Fat is the only fat that makes us fat. The shape and size of our body, reflects how much body fat we are storing.

The food industry wanted the food Pyramid, it was the perfect tool to launch processed foods. The diet experts needed money to promote and advertise their diet. So a deal was struck. The Industry joined the diet experts and the Pyramid was given an additional layer, a big base, to fit into the pyramid. It became a food category, never heard of before, ‘Processed Foods’. Somehow, these fake foods were later re named new carbohydrates, a travesty to anyone who knows and understands our body and nature’s foods. The result was a Pyramid Diet, that demanded we eat 60% manufactured, processed foods, every day. That is truly some food for thought!
